Women's Cross Country Returns at #12

The New York University Top-50 Varsity Sports Highlight List for 2019-20 has dwindled to the final dozen, and the women's cross country team returns at #12 as two runners qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship. The Violet duo of freshman Siena Moran (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) and Leah Haley (Windsor, CA/Montgomery) each posted top-25 finishes at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship on November 16 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, and qualified for the national race.

Competing in a 38-team, 274-person field, NYU's dynamic duo led the Violets to a 10th-place finish by crossing the line in fifth and 25th place, respectively. Moran traversed the 6K course in a time of 22:34.2, while Haley clocked in at 23:15.7.

Also scoring for NYU that day were Milly Ames (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) (49th place, 23:50.4), Kate Gallagher (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) (96th place, 24:52.2) and Julia Mao (Windsor, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro ) (118th place, 25:16.7).

Overall, the Violets accumulated 293 points in posting their top-10 finish.

Moran went on to finish 53rd at Nationals, while Haley came in at 233rd.

The Violets first appeared on the Top-50 List at #37 with their victory at the Ramapo Season Opener on August 30 as Moran captured the individual title in her collegiate debut. The squad also made the list at #26 by finishing second at the Paul Short Invitational on October 5, with Moran producing another victory in a 342-person field.
