In a dominating performance, the New York University women's cross country team placed all five scorers among the top nine, including boasting the individual winner, as the Violets captured the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, November 1, in Edwardsville, IL.
The title is the second in NYU program history, with the other victory achieved in 2023.
"The women ran incredibly tough today," said Associate Head Coach
Nic Jacobsen. "We had a lot of moving pieces going into this race, and it was really exciting seeing them all come together and race fearlessly."
Leading the pack for NYU was sophomore
Ashlyn Pallotta, who out-distanced all of her competitors over the 6k course with a time of 21:00.8. She finished seven seconds ahead of runner-up Chloe Bronson of Carnegie Mellon University.
Pallotta, who became only the second NYU individual to win the title (current assistant coach
Grace Richardson won the race in 2023), spearheaded the Violets' attack which totaled 25 points, well ahead of second-place Carnegie Mellon (54).
The Violets are currently ranked #5 in the nation.
Josephine Dziedzic and
Grace Rowley were next up for the Violets, finishing third and fourth, respectively, with times of 21:09.6 and 21:19.6.
Rounding out the scorers for the champion Violets were
Stella Kuttner (8th place, 21:44) and
Lucy Gott (9th place, 21:51.0).
Overall, 78 runners competed in the eight-team event.
The Violets return to action at the NCAA Niagara Regional Championship on Saturday, November 15, in Rochester, NY.
