Coming in at #44 on the countdown of New York University's top-50 varsity sports highlights of the 2019-20 season is the baseball team's victory in its season finale.
On March 9 at MCU Park in Brooklyn, the Violets played what turned out to be their final game of the 2020 season. NYU's 11-0 shutout of John Jay College was its last action before the season was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Though the season was short, it was also sweet as the Violets concluded the abbreviated campaign with a 4-1 record. The season finale included a stellar performance by starter
Michael Santorum (Hilton Head Island, SC/IMG Academy), who allowed only one hit over his five innings of work. The following trio of
Ashwin Chona (Irvine, CA/Sage Hill),
Zach Cohen (Corte Madera, CA/Redwood) and
Nick Argenziano (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) pitched four innings of no-hit ball as NYU concluded its season on a three-game winning streak.
Grant Berman (Encino, CA/Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks)) led the offensive explosion with four RBIs and was subsequently named
University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Week.
