The women's basketball team makes its debut on the New York University Top-50 Varsity Sports Highlight List of 2019-20 at #28 with its win over Brandeis University in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener, the culmination of the Violets' season-high seven-game win streak.
The host Violets defeated the Judges 76-65 on January 11.
NYU trailed after the first quarter, 15-14, but took the lead for good on
Lauren Koyama's three-pointer with 7:49 to play in the second.
Janean Cuffee (New York, NY/The Lawrenceville School) led the way for NYU with a game-high 24 points while
Brooklyn Shelton (Botetourt, VA/Lord Botetourt) scored 19 points.
Shelton connected on her first four free throws, extending her NYU record for consecutive makes to 37 before finally missing one in the last minute.
Lauren Gast (St. Louis, MO/Villa Duchesne) chipped in with eight rebounds, six points, two assists, and a block. Koyama finished with nine points and
Jenny Walker (Sausalito, CA/Redwood) had eight.
