Men's Basketball Reappears on Top-50 Highlight List

#16 - Violets Win Tip-Off Tournament

The men's basketball team makes its second appearance on the New York University Top-50 Highlight List of 2019-20 at #16 with its overtime win over Western New England University in the Championship Game of the NYU Tip-Off Tournament, which the Violets hosted on November 23-24 at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.

The game was tied 74-74 after regulation. Western New England opened the extra session by scoring the first four points. But, consecutive three-pointers by Nick Macarchuk (Alamo, CA/St. Thomas Moore Prep) and two free throws by Ethan Feldman (New York, NY/The Salisbury School) gave the Violets a lead they would never relinquish.

Marcarchuk, who finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Feldman, who scored 18 points, were both named to the Tip-Off All-Tournament Team.

Jimmy Martinelli (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South), who double-doubled with game highs of 25 points and 11 rebounds, was named Tournament MVP.

The men's basketball team originally appeared on the Top-50 List at #47 with its first University Athletic Association (UAA) win of the season, an 80-79 road victory over Carnegie Mellon University on February 7 in Pittsburgh, PA.

A recap of NYU's victory over Western New England can be found here.
