The New York University women's cross country team repeated as NCAA Niagara Regional Champions after a first-place finish at the championship meet on Saturday, November 15.
The meet was hosted by SUNY Geneseo at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, NY.
The Violets totaled 52 points to finish ahead of second-place SUNY Geneseo (64).
NYU is currently
ranked #2 in the nation.
"The women ran a terrific team race today as a pack," said Associate Head Coach
Nic Jacobsen. "Inserting Janie back into the lineup was very exciting for us, and we are looking forward to putting all the pieces together for the national championship next week."
Janie Cooper led the way for the Violets, taking second overall in her first race this season. The senior clocked in at 2:46.0 for the 6k race.
Josephine Dziedzic (22:09.5) was another top-10 finisher for the Violets, taking ninth overall.
Lucy Gott (11th place, 22:10.8),
Emily Castles (13th, 22.16.1), and
Daniela Sekhar (17th, 22:30.8) all finished in the top 20 and scored for the Violets in the regional championship meet.
Overall, 23 teams and 162 runners competed.
The team will now progress to the NCAA Division III National Championship for the fourth consecutive season. The meet will be held on Saturday, November 22, hosted by USC Upstate in Spartanburg, SC.
