The New York University women's cross country team posted a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship on Saturday, November 16, hosted by St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.
The Violets finished with 293 points. SUNY Geneseo won the 38-team race with 68 points.
First across the line for NYU was
Siena Moran (Princeton, NJ/Princeton). She finished the 6K course in fifth place with a time of 22:34.2.
Not far behind were
Leah Haley (Windsor, CA/Montgomery) (25th place, 23:15.7),
Milly Ames (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) (49th place, 23:50.4) and
Kate Gallagher (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) (96th place, 24:52.2).
Rounding out the scoring for the Violets was
Julia Mao (Windsor, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro ) (118th place, 25:16.7).
Anna Kaufman (Santa Rosa, CA/Windsor) (131st place 25:28.1) and
Gabrielle Stankosh (Somerset, NJ/Bishop George) (133rd place, 25:29) also competed for NYU.
Overall, 274 runners participated.
"Siena has continued her trend of great runs against tough competitors
," said Head Coach
Erison Hurtault. "We are excited to see how she will progress into the NCAA Championship scene next weekend."
Moran's performance qualifies her for the NCAA Division III National Championship, which will be held next Saturday, November 23, in Louisville, KY. Haley may also advance, depending how many at-large bids are taken from the Atlantic Region. That will be determined tomorrow.
