Women's Track & Field Makes Top-50 Debut

A Pair of Gold Medals at UAA Indoor Championships Rank #23

The women's track & field team makes its debut on the New York University Top-50 Varsity Sports Highlight List of 2019-20 at #23 with its gold medal performances at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships.

NYU hosted the championships on Saturday and Sunday, February 29 and March 1, at The Armory in Manhattan.

On the second day of competition, the old and the young rose up for the Violets as senior Evelyn Nkanga (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) and freshman Isre'al Conerly (Los Angeles, CA/St. Mary's Academy) earned gold medals.

Nkanga, a two-time NCAA All-American, won the 200 meters on Sunday (25.30) after having set the NYU team record (25.21) on Saturday. She also earned a bronze medal in the triple jump (11.62m) at the meet.

Conerly, competing in her first-ever UAA Championships, won the 400 meters in a time of 58.25. She also took sixth in the 200 meters (25.73) and went on to earn UAA Indoor Rookie of the Year honors.

The dynamic duo accounted for 29 points in those three events, while also contributing to the Violets' seventh-place finish in the 4x400m relay.

Overall, NYU totaled 43 points and finished in sixth place.
