Women's Swimming & Diving Back on Top-50 List

Violets' Second-Place Performace at UAA Championships is #13

The New York University women's swimming & diving team tied its best showing ever with a second-place finish at the 2020 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships. That performance ranks #13 on the NYU Top-50 Varsity Sports Highlight List of 2019-20.

Led by UAA Women's Swimmer of the Year, senior Honore Collins (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township), the Violets compiled 1,532.5 team points, second only to perennial champion Emory University (1,686.50). The 154-point deficit represented the closest NYU has come to winning the title. Collins won three individual events and was a member of two winning relays over the four-day (February 12-15) competition at the University of Chicago.

Many Violets contributed to the team's best-ever performance. Junior Sydney Catron (Alexandria, VA/Bishop O'Connell) won a total of four events (two individual, two relay), while freshman Jessica Flynn (Charlotte, NC /Charlotte Latin School) was a member of two winning relays, one second-place relay and one third-place relay. She also finished third in two individual events and was selected UAA Co-Rookie of the Year.

Based on his team's outstanding performance, Head Coach Trevor Miele and his assistants were named UAA Women's Coaching Staff of the Year.

The women's swimming & diving team had already appeared twice on the Top-50 List. The Violets were featured at #32 with their victory at the NYU Fall Invitational (November 8-9) and at #19 with their first-place finish at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational (December 6-8).
