Make a SPLASH in how you MOVE! 

Campus Recreation offers several aquatics programs and participation opportunities for the NYU Community. Utilizing our two Natatorium facilities at the Palladium Athletic Facility and at the John A. Paulson Center, Violets can explore ways to move within our waters to help meet your interests and fitness goals.

What to expect from our Aquatics Programs classes: 

  • 55 minute classes
  • Prices for classes (and passes) vary in cost
  • ALL NYU students and non-students with active memberships can REGISTER (based on class capacity)
  • All classes are held in NYU athletic facilities - your valid NYU ID card and class confirmation is mandatory to participate

Class/Program Postponements and Cancelations:

  • If a class or program is canceled, all registered participants will be contacted via email prior to the start of class.
  • Please be aware of the class schedules as the following can determine cancellations or postponements:
    • Facility Closure due to Maintenance
    • University closure
    • Closure due to inclement weather, unforeseen incidents, or observed holidays or breaks

Support for Students with Accessibility Needs:

  • The Moses Center for Student Accessibility and Inclusive Culture works with NYU students to determine and implement appropriate and reasonable accommodations as well as access available programs and resources to support equal access to your education.

AQUATICS COURSES


PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
(Only adults eligible to take aquatics courses)

SWIMMING/BEGINNER

Description:

  • Learn how to swim for adults

Objectives:

  • No prior experience required
  • Learn (or review) the essentials of swimming, including flotation, kicking, treading, rotary breathing, and an introduction to the four main strokes

Requirements:

  • Bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, and a swim cap.

SWIMMING/ADVANCED BEGINNER 

Description:

  • Develop a foundational swim training regimen

Objectives:

  • Foundational understanding of swimming is required
  • Develop your technique in freestyle and backstroke
  • Improve your aerobic stamina

Requirements:

  • Bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, and a swim cap
  • Must know how to swim confidently 
  • Must take Swimming/Beginner (or pass swim test) before advancing to this course

SWIMMING/INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED

Description:

  • Develop further strokes and advance stroke technique

Objectives:

  • Introduction to butterfly and breaststroke.
  • Introduction to interval training.
  • Development of turns and basic swim sets. 

Requirements:

  • Bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, and a swim cap
  • Must know how to swim confidently 
  • Must pass Swimming/Advanced Beginner (or pass swim test) before advancing to this course

SWIM FOR FITNESS

Description:

  • Build endurance,speed, and overall fitness through interval training, learning about competitive pacing, and enhancing your technique through drills with coach-driven workouts. 

Objectives:

  • Foundational understanding of swimming and a high level of comfort in the water is strongly recommended.
  • Engage in advanced swim training of the four strokes
  • Improvement on technique, pacing, and overall performance for competition

Requirements:

  • Bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, and a swim cap
  • Must be able to swim confidently

DEEP WATER POWER WORKS

Description:

  • A non-impact form of running done in the deep end of a pool, while wearing a flotation belt

Objectives:

  • Recommended for those with injuries and for athletes who are interested in adding a challenge to their cross training workout.
  • Participants can work at their own pace.
  • Must have intermediate swimming skills to participate. 

Requirements:

  • Bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, and a swim cap
  • Must be able to swim confidently (classes held in competition-depth pool)
