The New York University softball season was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic, but not before the softball team ended the campaign on a high note.
The Violets, with sophomore
Maggie Swan (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) on the mound, shutout Rutgers-Newark University in the second game of a road doubleheader in what turned out to be the last action of the season.
After a disappointing 8-0 loss in the opener on March 10 in Newark, NJ, Swan went the distance in the nitecap. She allowed only three hits and struck out five in her seven innings of work, while also adding two hits in the 4-0 NYU victory.
Sophomore
Sarah Mehrle (Liberty Township, OH/Ursuline Academy) knocked in half of the team's runs with a two-run single in the sixth.
