The women's fencing team makes its second appearance on the New York University Top-50 Highlight List of 2019-20 with its second-place finish at the NIWFA (National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association) Championships, which were held at Drew University in Madison, NJ, on February 29.
Ranked #21 on the highlight list, the Violets took second place of 12 teams. NYU's foil and epee teams each finished second, while the sabre team took third. Combined, the squads won a total of 77 bouts, falling just 12 short of first-place NCAA Division I Temple University.
Chiara Codazzi (Rome, Italy/St. Stephens) posted the highest individual finish for NYU, taking second place in foil.
The Violets took home two trophies at the competition. They secured the Division III Trophy, which was awarded to the highest-finishing Division III team, and the West Point Trophy, presented to the second-place team.
The women's fencing team had originally appeared on the Top-50 List at #43 with its undefeated showing at the FDU Invitational on February 8.
