The New York University women's fencing team competed at the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championships on Saturday, February 29, at Drew University in Madison, NJ.

Overall, NYU took second place of 12 teams as the Violets' foil and epee teams both finished second, with the sabre team taking third. They won a combined 77 bouts, falling 12 short of first-place Temple University.

Chiara Codazzi (Rome, Italy/St. Stephens) took second in foil, falling in the gold-medal bout 15-14.

The Violets took home two trophies, the Division III Trophy, which was awarded to the best Division III team and the West Point Trophy, awarded to the second-place team.

Senior Rachel Wu (Palo Alto, CA/Shanghai American School (China)) was the lone NYU team member to be named to the 2020 NIWFA All-Academic Team.

The Violets are back in action next Sunday, March 8, at the NCAA Regional Championships at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
