Members of the New York University men's and women's track and field teams opened competition Friday at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza (F.I.R.E.) Meet, hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, MA. These meets serve as the final opportunities for individuals to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships, held May 21-23 in La Crosse, WI.
Josephine Dziedzic led the Violets in the women's 5,000m, placing ninth overall in 16:46.09. Ashlyn Pallotta added an 11th-place finish in 17:14.46, while Emily Castles finished 18th in 17:46.20. Lindsay Guthrie also recorded a top-25 finish, crossing in 18:04.13. Rachel Newman and Deia Mulligan also competed for NYU.
On the men's side, Jordan Pearlman paced the Violets in the 5,000m with a 22nd-place finish in 14:56.49.
In the field events, Emma Grunin placed seventh in the women's javelin with a throw of 36.74m. Daniel Lee also competed in the men's discus, recording a mark of 33.28m.
Competition at the F.I.R.E. Meet concludes Saturday, May 9, with the majority of events scheduled throughout the day.
