Official Results

Two members of the New York University women's track & field team captured gold medals as the Violets completed competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships, which were held on Saturday and Sunday, February 29-March 1, at the Armory in Manhattan.

After setting a school record in the 200 meters (25.21) on Saturday, Evelyn Nkanga (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) came back to win the event on Sunday (25:30). She also took a bronze medal in the triple jump (11.62m).

Isre'al Conerly (Los Angeles, CA/St. Mary's Academy), who finished sixth in the 200 (25.73), returned to the oval and won the 400m in a time of 58.25.

Those three events added 29 points to NYU's final total of 43. Overall, the Violets ended up in sixth place, not far behind fifth-place Brandeis University (46.3 points).

Washington University in St. Louis won the seven-team meet with 201 points.

Siena Moran (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) also reached the podium for NYU by taking a bronze medal with a third-place finish in the mile (5:06.75).

The Violets also earned points in the 4x400m relay (seventh place), the 800 meters (Rebecca MacLeod (Northport, NY/Northport), eighth place), and the 3,000 meters (Athina Zodl (Raleigh, NC/Cary Academy), eighth place).

"We had some great performances today," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "It's a great accomplishment to win a conference title, and both Evelyn and Isre'al proved that they have what it takes to be champions."

The Violets' indoor season continues next Friday and Saturday, March 6-7, at the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Championships in Rochester, NY, for those competitors who have met the qualifying standards (PDF)
