#6: Wyant Hired, Becomes Only Female Head Coach of an NCAA Men’s Soccer Team

Former Women's National Team Goalkeeper Coached Violets to Six Victories in 2015

Checking in at #6 in the #NYUAthleticsTop10 is Kim Wyant being appointed Head Coach of the Violets' men's soccer team prior to the squad's second game of the 2015 season.

A long-time assistant coach of the NYU women's team, with her hire Wyant became the only female coach of an NCAA men's soccer team during the 2015 campaign.

Wyant picked up her first win as Head Coach on September 9 in the team's second game under her direction. The Violets posted a 6-11 record after she took over, including a 1-0 University Athletic Association (UAA) victory over Emory University on November 1.

"I happen to be in an unusual situation because I am a woman coaching a men's team and because it's not common right now," Wyant told New York Newsday after she was hired. "I think it will become more common not only in soccer but in other sports."

Wyant, who was the first goalkeeper in the history of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team and recipient of the Special Recognition Award from the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2008, was also featured by NYUStories.
