The New York University men's soccer team fell in its first University Athletic Association (UAA) match of the season, dropping the opener 4-0 on the road to the University of Chicago Maroons on Saturday, October 4.
The Violets kept the host Maroons off the score sheet in the first half, as NYU keeper
Jackson McCloskey made three saves in the opening 45 minutes.
UChicago put its stamp on the match early in the second half, however. Edward Wu cracked the match open in just 19 seconds, scoring back-to-back goals and giving his side a 2-0 lead.
The Maroons kept the offensive pressure up, and Alex Gomas extended their lead to 3-0 in the 58th minute.
Chase Perry was the third and final UChicago player to find the back of the net, netting the team's fourth goal of the day in the 63rd minute.
Despite a trio of NYU corner kicks in the final minutes, the Violets did not secure a goal in the match.
NYU returns to action on Wednesday, October 8, traveling to Rutgers-Newark for the final non-conference match of the regular season. Kickoff in Newark, NJ, is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
