The New York University men's soccer team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology 3-2 on Saturday, September 27, in Newark, NJ.
The Ducks opened the scoring in the 18th minute after a ball was knocked down by Violets' goalkeeper Ludvig Hillberts right outside the box.
NYU equalized right on the verge of halftime, when
Keyon Namdar squared the ball to a wide open
Terra Nagai in the box, who buried it in the far corner.
The second half was similar to the first, as the two teams went back-and-forth with chances. The Ducks broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute, and added a third goal in the 80th minute. The Ducks were reduced to 10 men in the 85th minute, but NYU could not take advantage on the free kick.
NYU's chance came five minutes later in a last-ditch effort when
Ethan Zarka found the back of the net off a ball from
Audric Ma at the top of the box in the final minute.
NYU out-shot Stevens 20-17, but both teams had six shots on goal. The Violets also led in corner kicks with a 6-4 advantage.
NYU will now begin UAA play by traveling to Chicago, IL, to take on University of Chicago on Saturday, October 4. Kickoff is set for 12pm.
