The New York University men's soccer team lost to Montclair State University 3-1 on Wednesday, September 24, in Montclair, NJ.
The Violets (1-4-1) were unable to prevail in the game against the Red Hakws (6-0-2), with the Violets lone goal coming from
Joe Brancato in the 35th minute.
The game before the goal was tense, with only a couple of shots being taken by both teams. It wasn't until captain
Terra Nagai stepped up to take a corner when NYU broke through, connecting with a Brancato header that went straight past the goalkeeper.
Montclair State equalized at the very end of the first half, scoring with the very last kick. They used that momentum to take the lead at the very beginning of the second half (48:35) after scoring on a NYU giveaway in their own half.
Ethan Zarka had a chance to tie the game in the 52nd minute, but his free kick forced a good save from the Red Hawks goalkeeper. Ten minutes later, Montclair State extended its lead to 3-1 off of a penalty, and that was the scoring for the night.
The Violets return to action on Saturday, September 27, with a home match at Lubetkin Field against Stevens Institute of Technology, in Newark, NJ. Kickoff is set for 5:30pm.
