The New York University women's golf team completed Round 1 of the Tartan Invitational, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University, on Monday, October 7, at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort – Mystic Rock Golf Course in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Violets,
currently ranked #15 in the nation, are in fourth place with a team score of +25. They trail top-ranked Carnegie Mellon at +18 in third and are ahead of #20 Denison University at +27 in fifth.
Emory University,
ranked #2, leads the 12-team competition with a score of +11 on the par-72 course.
Junior
Tiya Chowdary leads the way for NYU, currently in seventh place individually after carding a +4, which included three birdies. Senior
Madison Phung, junior
Srishti Dhurandhar, and freshman
Naomi Tan are all tied in 20th place at +7.
Phung notched an eagle and a birdie, while Dhurandhar and Tan each recorded one birdie.
Freshman
Kelly Jing wrapped up the day in 46th place at +11, also carding one birdie.
Washington University in St. Louis' Sydney Kuo tops the individual leaderboard among 64 players with a four-under-par performance.
"Despite the windy and cool conditions, I was proud of the team for playing well," said Head Coach
Brad Johnson. "Tiya fought hard after a difficult start and finished strong. We're looking forward to playing well tomorrow."
The Violets will return for the second and final round on Tuesday, October 8, with tee times beginning at 9:00 am.
