Tiya Chowdary and
Jiayi Fu of women's golf have earned weekly honors following their outstanding performances across both of the team's competitions last week. Chowdary was named both a University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week and Liberty League Performer of the Week, while Fu was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week.
Chowdary was selected MVP of the UAA Championship, which was held last Monday and Tuesday in Batavia, OH. Competing in match play against the top three teams in the nation (#1 Emory, #2 Carnegie Mellon, #3 Washington U In St. Louis), she won all three of her matches as NYU won the title by posting two wins and one tie. Making her collegiate debut, Fu recorded one win and two ties. It was the Violets' fifth conference championship in program history.
NYU then competed at the NCAA Preview in Palm Desert, CA, on Saturday and Sunday. The Violets finished third in the 15-team field, and Fu placed 6th out of 84 golfers. She was tied for the lead after the first round, shooting -3, then shot one-over par on Sunday to record the sixth-place finish. Chowdary placed 35th in a field of 84 shooting +7 overall and +1 over Sunday's second round.
NYU will continue its Fall season on Saturday, September 27, at the Williams Fall Invitational in Williamstown, MA.
