Women’s Golf Second after First Day at Williams Fall Invitational

Two Violets in Top Ten on Leaderboard

The New York University women's golf team returned to action on Saturday, September 27, for the first round of the Williams Fall Invitational.

The two-round tournament is hosted by Williams College at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, MA. After 18 holes, the Violets are tied with Wesleyan (CT) in second place, matching a team score of +9.

Amherst College leads the field after the first round with a +2 team score.

Jiayi Fu led the way for the Violets with an even-par 71. Fu had just one blemish on her scorecard, a bogey on the fifth hole. She negated that with a birdie on the 18th hole to finish even on the day.

Fu is among three golfers at even par for the day, all tied for fourth place. Amherst's Renna Chang leads the way at -4.

Despite starting her day with a bogey, Tiya Chowdary recorded four birdies on the back nine to work back to a +1 72 for the day. She sits in seventh place on the individual leader board.

Inha Jun is in 13th place overall with a +3 74 after the first round. Jun logged a pair of birdies over her final six holes.

Naomi Tan rounded out the scoring places for the Violets with a +5 76. She finished the day in 26th place.

The Violets play the final round on Sunday beginning at 8:30 am.
