UAA Announces Yearly Awards In Soccer and Volleyball

A Total of 13 Violets Were Recognized

Thirteen New York University student-athletes were recognized as All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honorees across the Violets' fall teams.

Lindsey Hirano, Grace Nelson, Haley Holz and Elise Curtin of women's volleyball, Kelli Keady, Gabriella Funk, Dominique Bevacqua, Eileen Xu, Hope Neale and Riley Mullady of women's soccer, and Arkan Tahsildaroglu, Ben Trask and Joss Cohen of men's soccer were all honored.

Nelson was awarded UAA Rookie of the Year for women's volleyball as well as landing a spot on the All-UAA Second Team. Hirano secured a spot on the First Team while Holz earned Second Team accolades and Curtin was an All-UAA Honorable Mention.

Nelson posted 2.84 kills per set (.226 hitting) and 58 service aces (2nd UAA) over 29 matches, accumulating 401.0 points this season. She won University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week on October 30. 

Hirano makes her third straight First Team All-UAA appearance. She leads the Violets and UAA in digs with 599 and had 39 service aces during the season. This season she broke the NYU program record for digs with 1,810 and counting. 

Holz was a two-time UAA Athlete of the Week for the Violets on September 18 and October 16. She had a season-high 21 kills and recorded 26 points in the Violets win over Emerson (Sep. 16). She leads the team with 358 kills this season. 

Funk and Keady were named First Team All-UAA, Bevacqua and Xu landed on the Second Team and Neale and Mullady were Honorable Mentions for women's soccer. 

Funk set a new program record for a single season and led the UAA in assists with 11. She sits second with 35 total points in the Association standings, scoring 12 goals during the season. She started all eighteen games this season and had a season-high three-goal match against John Jay (September 27). This is Funks' second year on the First Team.

Keady has scored 14 goals this season for the Violets, tying a program record that was set in 1995. She leads in shots on goal, averaging 2.18 per game in the seventeen games she has played this season. She also won UAA Athlete of the Week on September 25 and registered back-to-back hat tricks against William Paterson University (Sep 20.) and John Jay (Sep. 27). Last year Keady was named to the Second Team.

Bevacqua has started all 18 games this season on the frontline for the Violets. She scored five goals, recording a hat trick in the season opener against Mt. St. Mary (Sep. 1). 

Xu started 17 out of 18 games for the Violets, being a focal point in the backline. She played a full 90 in six of the matches during the year and had an assist in the 4-1 regular-season finale win against Brandeis. 

Tahsildaroglu was selected to the First Team for men's soccer for the second year in a row while Trask and Cohen collected Honorable Mentions. Tahsildaroglu led the Violets with seven goals and four assists. He was awarded UAA Athlete of the Week on both October 16 and November 6. 

Women's volleyball begins the postseason on Thursday, November 16 in Ithaca, NY, while women's soccer will compete in the Sweet 16 in Rochester, NY, on Saturday.
