Women's Soccer Cruises to Victory against John Jay

Violets Offense Comes to Life Scoring 11 Goals

The New York University women's soccer team returned to the field with a dominant 11-0 win over John Jay College on Wednesday, September 24, at Randall's Island Field #10 in New York, NY.

The Violets (7-1-1) came out raring to go, as they scored four times inside the first 20 minutes of the game. The first came from Marlee Scanlon (10:29), and the second came from Sari Frankl (12:27), with an assist from captain Rena Kalargiros

Five minutes after the goal from Scanlon, the Violets scored again, this time from Elizabeth Argenziano (17:19) who finished a ball that came into the box from a corner kick by Sydney Freese. Two minutes later, NYU added the fourth, with Leah Berg (19:48) being the recipient of a pass from Julia Spang

The rest of the first half was quiet for the Violets, as they added six more shots on goal, but none were able to find the back of the net.

NYU entered the second half similarly to how they entered the first, as it only took 4 minutes for Frankl (49:26) to score and make it 5-0. The Violets made it six four minutes later, as Alexa Buxbaum (53:36) grabbed her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Frankl added a second goal to her tally in the 62nd minute, and Maylin Carr (72:29) made it eight, scoring her first goal of the season. Four minutes later, Carmen Cicerini (76:10) scored her first of the day, with an assist from Berg. Sonia Neighbors (82:27) helped the team jump into the NYU record book, scoring the team's 10th goal of the day with an assist from Maya Panicker, collecting her first collegiate assist. Neighbors (86:39) doubled her tally, adding a second of the day, and the team's 11th of the afternoon to wrap up the scoring.

"Everyone played with a sharp focus today and tried to keep doing the right things," Coach Scott Waddell explained. "A good team performance on both sides of the ball."

The Violets led the game in shots (34-1), shots on goal (22-1) and corners (8-0).

The Violets return to the pitch against Farmingdale State College at home on Saturday, September 27, back at Lubetkin Field.  Kickoff is set for 3:00pm.
