The New York University women's soccer team faced an uphill battle to open the University Athletic Association (UAA) schedule, taking on
#7 UChicago on Saturday, October 4, in the Windy City.
NYU, ranked #25, was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit in the second half, scoring a late goal but falling 3-2 to the Maroons.
UChicago opened the scoring by taking advantage of an NYU turnover in their attacking third, as Indira Naylor and Lucy Harrison-Caldwell set up Kamiryn Braxton Grimes for the Maroons' first tally of the day. in the 19th minute.
The hosts doubled their lead just over 10 minutes later, when UChicago was awarded a penalty shot on a foul in the 18-yard box. Mary Stuart Kerrigan stepped up to the spot and converted the shot for a 2-0 lead.

Rena Kalargiros served up a perfect corner kick to Spang, who headed the ball home for the Violets' second goal of the match.
Despite a pair of free kicks in the final minutes, the Violets could not find the equalizer.
