The New York University women's soccer team defeated Farmingdale State College 4-0 on Saturday, September 27, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.
The first goal of the game came from
Sydney Freese in the 35th minute, who buried the ball in the back of the net off a deflection from a corner kick.
Five minutes later,
Maya Panicker almost doubled the Violets lead after she had the ball in the net, but the lineman called her offsides.
In the second half, the avalanche of goals finally started for NYU in the 60th minute with
Marlee Scanlon burying a ball off another deflection from a corner. The Violets made it three in the 70th minute when
Maddy Xiong whipped a ball in the box that
Carmen Cicerini promptly finished.
Hunter Hoelscher finished off the scoring in the 86th minute, with assists coming from
Elizabeth Argenziano and
Julia Spang.
The Violets out-shot the Rams 25-3, including 12-2 for shots on goal, and NYU also led in corners 12-0.
"We can play a lot better than that, but, we got the job done, which is what we came here to do," Head coach
Scott Waddell said. "We got four goals, including three from set piece goals, which is something we've been talking about. So getting those set piece goals can be the difference, and we got three today."
The Violets return to the pitch against the University of Scranton at home on Tuesday, September 30, back at Lubetkin Field, in Newark, NJ. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
