New York University's men's and women's golf teams have finished play at the Jekyll Island Invitational, which was held at the Jekyll Island Golf Club on the Georgia coast Friday-Sunday, March 18-20.
NYU's
13th-ranked women finished the three-round tournament in ninth place of 24 teams. The Violets shot 309 on Sunday for a three-day total of 910. They finished only one stroke behind eighth-place Washington & Lee University.
University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Emory University (866) won the invitational.
Nalinda Wanikpun was NYU's top finisher, tying for 26th place with a three-day total of 226. Right behind her was
Madison Phung, who shot a team-low 74 on Sunday and tied for 28th place (227).
Rounding out the NYU scorers were
Mimi Chen (T-32nd, 228),
Aliea Clark (T-37th, 230) and
Camilla Chung (T-87th, 249).
Overall, 120 golfers competed.
The
20th-ranked Violet men placed 20th of 30 teams, totaling 891 strokes over the three rounds, including 297 on Sunday. NYU finished two strokes behind 19th-place Greensboro College (889) as Sewanee University (851) took home the team title.
Joseph Burlison led the Violets with a par 216 over his three rounds, including a one-over 73 on Sunday. He tied for 25th in the 150-person field.
Next up for NYU was
Robbie Keyes, who finished at two-over 218 and tied for 35th place.
Jorge Montero shot 74 on Sunday and wound up tied for 90th place (228).
Chris Lee (T-104th, 231) and
Andy Yang (T-113th, 236) also competed for the Violets.
A group of Violet golfers also competed in the Individual Invitational, separate from the team scoring tournament. However, after playing on Friday and Saturday, they did not compete on Sunday due to "unplayable conditions."
On the women's side,
Charlotte Kwong wound up in a tie for first place (154).
Michelle Zhou took fifth (157) and
Isabel Herrera (158) was sixth.
In the men's individual tournament,
Kevin Kim tied for second place (147) and
Charles Hsieh (149) tied for sixth.
