The New York University Women's Golf Team shot better on Sunday in the second round of the NYU Invitational, which was held at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ, on Saturday and Sunday, October 16-17.
The Violets skimmed three shots off Saturday's total of 321, posting an overall 318 on Sunday.
NYU's two-day total of 639 left the squad four strokes behind second-place Wellesley College.
Williams College took the invitation title after totaling 600. They were spearheaded by individual champion Catalin Yturralde, who finished at 147 (75-72) over the par-72, 5,826-yard course.
Only two strokes behind was the second-place finisher, NYU's
Mimi Chen (Lake Mary, FL/Lake Mary Prep), who carded a 149 (75-74).
"I felt I used good course management over the weekend," Chen explained. "The course plays short, so it's important to be conservative, just play one shot at a time and not get ahead of myself."
The Violets'
Michelle Zhou (Southlake, TX/Carroll), playing as an individual, parred the course on Sunday and finished third overall (150, 78-72).
"I'm happy for Mimi and Michelle to finish the fall season on a high note," expressed Head Coach
Katie Rudolph.
Summer Yang (San Diego, CA/Torrey Pines) finished in eighth place (158, 79-79), also playing as an individual.
The invitational represented the final competition of the fall season for the players and the Violets' first-year head coach.
"I think I learned so much about our players and our team," Rudolph revealed. "We'll make necessary adjustments and be ready to go again in the spring."
The squad returns to action at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, March 11-13, in Palm Coast, FL.
