The New York University women's tennis team defeated Salisbury University 9-0 on Sunday, March 10, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx.
Following their third 9-0 win so far this season, the Violets, who entered the weekend ranked #19, improved to 5-0, while Salisbury fell to 3-2.
The women set the tone for the day in doubles play as
Anna Maria Buraya and
Fleura Shiyanova won the #1 match 8-1,
Rupa Ganesh and
Kate Shaffer won the #2 match 8-1, and
Judy Kam and
Vanessa Scott won the #3 match 8-2.
NYU continued its strong play in singles, winning every match in straight sets. Buraya won the #1 match 6-4, 6-2, Shiyanova won the #2 match 6-3, 6-2, Ganesh was victorious in the #3 match 6-1, 6-0, Kam won the #4 match 6-2, 6-1, Shaffer captured the #5 match 7-5, 6-1, and
Ana Leonard won the #6 match 6-4, 6-2.
"There were several solid matches today, some closer than others," said Assistant Coach
Jennifer Kellner. "It was nice to gain another win while also seeing how we can improve."
The Violets return to action on Saturday, March 16, when they face The College of New Jersey at 11am in Ewing, NJ.
