The No. 24 New York University women's tennis team fell 7–0 to No. 13 Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, March 14, in Baltimore, MD.
In doubles play, the Violets were unable to secure a win, ultimately conceding the doubles point to the Blue Jays.
The No. 1 pairing of Visnja Gusavac and Sophia Yang fell 6–4, while Emma Kast and Victoria Wang also dropped a 6–4 decision at No. 2. At No. 3, Norah Staunton and Sophia Wright were defeated 6–1.
Johns Hopkins carried that momentum into singles competition, earning wins across the lineup to secure the team victory.
At No. 1, Gusavac fell 6–3, 6–2, while Wang dropped a competitive 7–5, 6–4 match at No. 2. Yang was defeated 7–5, 6–1 in the No. 3 position. At No. 4, Vera Bondarenko fell 6–0, 6–1, while Siona Vallabhaneni battled but ultimately dropped a 7–5, 6–4 decision at No. 5. Kast was defeated 6–2, 6–3 at No. 6.
"The match was our first outdoor match of the season and we didn't make the adjustments we needed to while Johns Hopkins did," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "We need to learn from this and apply it to our next match and the rest of the season."
The Violets will return to action on Saturday, March 28, when they travel to face the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY.
