The New York University women's tennis team defeated the Rochester Institute of Technology, 7–0, at home on Sunday, March 8, in the Bronx, NY.
In doubles play, the Violets swept the matches to secure the point.
The No. 1 duo of Sophia Yang and Visnja Gusavac earned a 6–0 victory, while the No. 2 pair of Siona Vallabhaneni and Norah Staunton won 6–2. RIT was shorthanded and had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match, conceding the point.
The Violets dominated singles play.
Gusavac added a point to the team score with a 6–2, 6–0 win at No. 1, while Yang dominated at No. 2 with a 6–0, 6–0 victory. At No. 3, Vera Bondarenko earned a 6–1, 6–1 win, and Noelle Faber contributed a 6–0, 6–0 victory at No. 4.
"The women took care of business," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "Unfortunately, RIT was shorthanded, but our women were focused and won the match. Now we have upcoming matches against two strong opponents that we have to get ready for. These are teams you can't overlook, and overall it was a great team effort."
The Violets will return to action on Friday, March 13, when they face Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA., and on Saturday, March 14, when they face Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.
