The New York University women's tennis team defeated William Smith College 7–0 on Sunday, March 29, in Geneva, NY.
The Violets took the opening point of the match by sweeping the doubles matches.
The No. 1 duo of Sophia Yang and Visnja Gusavac and the No. 2 pair of Emma Kast and Victoria Wang each secured 6–1 wins, while the No. 3 tandem of Norah Staunton and Sophia Wright earned a 6–4 victory.
NYU carried that momentum into singles, where they won all six matches.
At No. 1, Gusavac took the win with a score of 6–4, 6–3. Wang followed at No. 2 with a 6–2, 6–2 victory, while Yang earned a 6–1, 6–0 win at the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, Noelle Faber secured a 6–0, 6–3 win, while at No. 5, Wright finished with a 6–1, 6–0 result. At No. 6, Sara Gao posted a 6–0, 6–1 victory to help secure the overall win for NYU.
"It was another strong showing of our women," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "We were able to sweep the doubles and never looked back. William Smith competed hard, but we have a little more depth and talent at this point. I was happy that Sophia Wright and Sara earned their first college singles victories."
The Violets will return to the courts on Sunday, April 12, when they face The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ.
