Donald Novick played for the U.S. Olympic Team in 1964 after leading the NCAA with a .523 average, amassing 34 hits in 65 at-bats without a single strikeout. At the time, it was the seventh-highest batting average in history. The recipient of the “William McCarthy Award” and the first NYU baseball player ever to win the “Alumni Award” as the University’s Outstanding Athlete, Novick captained the Violets’ 1965 Metropolitan Conference Championship team before going on to play in the New York Yankees’ and Philadelphia Phillies minor league systems (1965-66). Eventually, he came back to coach the Violets’ men’s soccer team. A retired executive in the home textile industry, Novick is currently the batting coach of the Mamaroneck High School baseball team, which won the 2008 New York State Class AA Championship and was ranked #10 in the Easton National High School Poll.
