The New York University women's tennis team faced two opponents on Saturday, going up against Brandeis University and Amherst College on April 6 in Waltham, MA, and then Amherst.
Opening against Brandeis, the Violets fell 5-2.
In doubles play,
Molly Heber and
Jimena Menendez came out on top 8-5 in their #2 matchup, giving NYU its only doubles victory.
In singles, Menendez also triumphed, this time 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 in her #1 match.
Only three other Violets completed their singles matches, as once Brandeis reached five wins the the unfinished matches were halted.
"We had girls who were really good at fighting till the end, even when matches weren't going their way," said Assistant Coach
Sophia Strickland. "Several were able to come back after losing the first set and really turn things around."
Later in the afternoon, the Violets faced Amherst College and lost 5-0.
Most of the singles matches weren't finished, four in total. In three of those four matches, the Violets were losing the first set. However they were doing better in the second.
Jimena Menendez was 3-6, 3-2 in her #1 and
Isabella Hartman was 1-6, 5-5 in the #2 match.
Kendall Kamerschen was 2-6, 4-1 in her #6 match-up.
Tess Heber's score was 6-3, 4-2 in the #4 match.
"Unfortunately we weren't able to finish out all of the matches, but I think some of the girls had opportunities to pull those out," said Strickland.
