Four New York University fencers began competition at the NCAA Championships, which are being hosted by Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, Thursday-Sunday, March 21-24.
The first two days were comprised solely of the women's competition, with the men taking over today and tomorrow. The final team scores are a combination of the women's and men's totals.
After Saturday's rounds, NYU has accumulated 20 points and stands in 20th place overall.
The Violets are only four points behind 16th-place Boston College in the 27-team competition.
Harvard University is in first place with 141 points.
The Violets' top performer on Saturday was
Adam Wong, who sits in ninth place in foil. He competed in 15 bouts and won nine of them.
"Adam is only three bouts out of first place and is more than capable of picking up some more wins tomorrow," said Head Coach
Ben Bratton.
Also competing in the weapon for NYU is
Farr Dickson, who won three bouts and is in 24th place.
A pair of Violets are also competing in saber.
Jerry Pan and
Kevin Zu each recorded four wins and are tied for 21st place.
"We're going against some very challenging competition, but we ended the day better than we started and that's good momentum going into tomorrow," Bratton added.
The fencers will be back in action on Sunday for the final day of competition.
