Track & Field Concludes Competition at the AARTFC Championships

4x200-meter Relay Team Posts New Season Best

Members of the New York University men's and women's track & field teams concluded competition at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships hosted by Nazareth University in Rochester, NY, on Friday, March 2.

Both the men's and women's teams were represented in the 4x200-meter relay.

The men's team, consisting of Travis Perry, Matt Marcelo, Nishad Sankar, and Emmanuel Brito placed 20th and finished .01 behind 19th-place St. John Fisher, clocking 1:33.75. Their time today surpassed the Violets previous season best of 1:33.86 set by Brito, Perry, Austin Cabanban, and Safi Darwiche at the Seahawk Shootout on December 8.

The women's team, consisting of Cindy Leonard, Kate Walsh, Beverly Okyere, and Seneca Guneratne posted a tenth-place finish with a time of 1:48.05.

Brito also competed in the 400-meter dash, notching a 14th-place finish in 50.94.

Sankar placed 15th in the men's triple jump, marking 13.28m.

Dasha Jackson (10.99m) and Areyanna McCarthy (10.93m) competed in the women's triple jump, finishing 18th and 19th, respectively.

McCarthy notched a 15-place finish in the high jump with a top mark of 1.52m.

Rowan University took first on the men's side with 100 points, while SUNY Geneseo captured the championship on the women's side with 90.14. NYU remained scoreless through day two of competition.

Select members of the New York University track & field teams will return to action at the NCAA Division III Championships in Virginia Beach, VA, which is set to begin next Friday, March 8.

Following the championships, the Violets will launch their outdoor season at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open in Atlanta Georgia on Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23.
