The New York University men's and women's track & field teams hosted the NYU DIII Invitational at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in Manhattan on Saturday, February 14, while several other Violets ran at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University in Boston, MA.
At the DIII Invitational,
Adrianna Kosmont debuted in the unseeded 60m and won the race in a time of 8.26.
In the 400m,
Beverly Okyere ran a personal-best 1:00.03, finishing seventh overall in a field of 32 runners.
Several Violets competed in the 3000m, with four finishing among the top-10. Leading the NYU pack was
Emily Castles, who took fifth in 10:21.84, and was immediately followed by
Paisley Piepgras (6th, 10:22.44) and
Lindsay Guthrie (7th, 10:22.90).
Rachel Newman was 10th (10:22.90).
On the men's side, NYU's contingent in the 3000m was just as impressive with four Violets placing among the top-7.
James Jenkins finished as the event runner-up with a personal-best time of 8:39.69. Taking fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, were
Jordan Pearlman (8:52.56, season debut),
Micah Taffet (8:56.27) and
Brandon Meiner (8:56.86).
William Cornick took 12th in a 50-person field in the 800m, posting a time of 1:58.99.
A pair of Violets posted top-15 finishes in the 200m.
Emmanuel Brito took 11th place (22.70), while
James Thompson was 14th (22.76).
"We had some nice performances today," said Head Coach
Tyler Deck Shipley. "This is always a great meet and we are privileged to host it at such a prestigious venue."
In Boston, the lone member of the NYU men's track team,
Liam Hagerty, ran in the 5000m on Friday night. In a field made up of mainly Division I runners, Hagerty posted a personal-best time of 14:30.28, good for 143rd place overall in a field of 204.
The NYU women took the track in Boston on Saturday.
In the mile,
Stella Kuttner finished 59th (personal-best 4:51.58) in a field of 222.
Gianna Dawson (52nd, personal-best 2:13.09) and
Rina Kurihara (73rd, 2:15.91) ran in the 187-person 800m.
In the 3000m,
Janie Cooper represented the Violets and posted a time of 9:59.30, That was good for 152nd place in a field of 207.
Finally, in the 500m,
Katherine Cochran (70th, 16:37.58),
Josephine Dziedzic (76th, 16:42.59),
Lucy Gott (118th, 17:21.16), and
Daniela Sekhar (131st, 17:35.80) all competed for the Violets.
There was no team scoring at either meet.
The NYU track & field teams return to action when they compete at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Friday and Saturday, February 28-March 1, at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
