Track & Field Teams Competes at Ocean Breeze

Six Violets PR as Six Debut in New Events

The New York University men and women's track & field teams competed at the Seahawk Shootout at the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Athletic Center in Staten Island, NY, on Friday, December 8.

Six Violets debuted in new events and six more notched new personal bests at the invitational hosted by Wagner College.

Freshman Seneca Guneratne topped the time she set in her first-place finish in the 60-meter dash at the Fastrack National Invitational last week, running an 8.07 to post a new season's best. EJ Eaglin also topped his time in the 60-meter dash (7.57).

For the distance squad, William Cornick and Samuel Ard surpassed the times they posted last week in the mile, setting new personal bests at 4:33.14 and 4:41.73, respectively.

On the field side, Daniel Lee threw 11.13m in the shot put to surpass his previous best by .6 meters.

In the triple jump, Mariel Rocca outdid her last top mark, leaping 4.89m.

Beverly Okyere and Stanley Hir competed in the 300-meter dash for the first time in their careers as Violets, finishing at 44.29 and 39.49, respectively.

In their first 600-meter race as Violets, Nabeel Elsanousi and Laila Goodman finished in 1:28.79 and 1:45.98, respectively, while Caroline Mackinnon finished her inaugural 3,000-meter run in 3:15.87.

Kate Walsh, in her first time lacing up for the 60-meter dash, crossed the line in 8.48.

Both the men and women's teams were represented in the 4x200-meter relay. The women's team consisting of Goodman, Okyere, Guneratne, and Areyanna McCarthy finished in 1:47.09 to take fifth and the men's team consisting of Austin Cabanban, Travis Perry, Emmanuel Brito, and Safi Darwiche posted an 11th-place finish in 1:33.86.

There was no team scoring at the event.

The Violets will return to action when they travel to Ewing, NJ, to compete in the Lions Invitational hosted by The College of New Jersey on Saturday, January 13.
