The New York University track & field team hosted day one of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships at the Armory in Manhattan, on Saturday, February 24.
Four Violets will be advancing to the final round of their events based on their performances today.
Emmanuel Brito posted a second-place finish in the 200-meter preliminary round, easily advancing to the finals and achieving a new personal best with his time of 22.34. Davis Flanagin and Travis Perry also notched new PRs, clocking in at 22.88 and 23.25, respectively.
Brito also achieved a new personal best and qualified for the final section of the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 50.56 to place seventh.
"Last year, around this time, I pulled my hamstring twice. Anything is better than that," Brito explained. "But, to make it to the finals in both, being second in the 200, feels huge."
Flanagin qualified for the final section of the 60-meter dash with his sixth-place finish in the preliminary, notching a personal-best 7.14 today.
Julian Aske placed fifth and will advance to the final section of the 800-meter run tomorrow following his four-second personal best of 1:51.95.
The distance medley relay team consisting of Jake Chang running the 1,200-meter leg, Matt Marcelo the 400, Alex Hrycysyzn in the 800, and Jorge Rocha anchoring with the 1,600-meter leg placed sixth among the seven teams. The Violets finished in 11:44.84, trailing fifth-place Case Western Reserve University.
Carnegie Mellon University leads the team scoring with 65 points, followed by the University of Chicago with 39.5. NYU ranks sixth with four points after day one of competition
The UAA's conclude tomorrow back at the Armory, with competition beginning at 10:00 AM.
