Track and Field Competes at Columbia Dr. Sanders Scorcher

First Competition for Distance Runners Since 2025 XC National Championships

The New York University track and field teams continued their 2026 indoor schedule at the Dr. Sanders Scorcher, hosted by Columbia University, Jan. 23-24. The meet was held at the Track and Field Center at The Armory in Manhattan. 

NYU started the meet in the open division of the 3000m run. On the women's side, Olivia Jackson (10:05.53) placed fourth overall - matching her finish in the third heat. Daniela Sekhar (10:13.18) took sixth overall. 

Gianna Dawson (2:15.01) and Rina Kurihara (2:15.08) crossed the line in succession in the women's 800m invitational, taking 21st and 22nd, respectively. 

Four Violets hit the track in the women's invitational heats for the 3000m. Stella Kuttner was the top finisher for NYU, taking 12th overall with a 9:40.12 time. Josephine Dziedzic (9:43.27) took 15th overall.

In the men's 3000m invitational, Liam Hagerty scored the top finish for the Violets. The junior finished 17th overall in 8:22.31. 

During the Saturday slate, James Thompson was the top finisher for the Violets in the 200m open division. He finished second in his heat, and 16th overall with a 22.86 time. 

NYU's 4x400 men's relay (Thompson, Emmanuel Brito, Drew Boyce, Tyler Burch) took 12th overall in the open division, clocking in at 3:34.49.

The Violets next head to Philadelphia, Jan. 31-Feb.1, for the Widener Schuylkill Showcase, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
