The New York University men's fencing team had a stellar performance at the Nikki Franke Classic at Temple University on Sunday, October 27.
Five Violets medaled in the non-team competition.
A pair of NYU fencers took home bronze medals for their third-place performances.
Ajit Sivakumar was third of 105 competitors in epee, while
Oliver Hu's third-place finish came in foil within a field of 100.
Sivakumar reached the semifinals with a resounding 15-8 win over Boston College's Daniel Gao. Hu advanced to the semis with a similarly convincing 15-7 victory over the University of North Carolina's Nick Baumstein.
Two of Hu's teammates also medaled in foil as
Adam Wong took sixth place and
Anup Banerjee was eighth.
Jerry Pan also took home a medal for the Violets, finishing fifth of 83 competitors in saber.
"Our men's team showed incredible consistency and determination today, earning medals in every weapon," said Head Coach
Ben Bratton. "Ajit's performance in epee, Oliver's podium finish in foil, and strong results from Jerry, Adam, and Anup reflect the high standards we set for ourselves. With such deep competition, it's rewarding to see our athletes rise to the occasion. This success is a great indicator of the team's potential, and we're excited to carry this momentum forward."
The Violets are back in action when they host St. John's University, Long Island University, and Wagner College at the NYU Invitational on Sunday, November 17, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
