The New York University men's track & field team competed in the NYC Gotham Cup, held at Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Staten Island on Friday, January 19.
Jon Diaz set a new program record for the Violets in the 1,000-meter run as three others set new personal bests at the event, which did not have team scoring.
Diaz's time of 2:26.37 topped the previous record of 2:27.33, which was set by Matt Turlip in 2011. Diaz took fourth in the 32-athlete field. His time today surpassed his previous personal best by nearly six seconds.
Nishad Sankar marked 13.61m to set a new personal best and place second in the triple jump competition.
In the weight throw,
Daniel Lee threw 3.04m further than his previous best to set a new top mark of 10.14m.
Back on the track,
Emmanuel Brito clocked in at 23.06 to set a new top time and place 21st in a 200-meter dash field consisting of 53 competitors.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Brito,
James Thompson,
Matt Marcelo, and
Lincoln Tutor posted a seventh-place finish in 3.29.46.
The men's team will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the Dr. Sander Invitational hosted by Columbia University at the Armory on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27.
