Freshman
Jomyuth Luangtana-anan tied a program record by shooting a 67, leading the New York University men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Bowdoin Invitational in Brunswick, ME.
Hosted by Bowdoin College on Saturday and Sunday, September 23-24, at the Brunswick Golf Club, Luangtana-anan shot 30 on a bogey-less back nine to close out his 5-under par. Over the two rounds, he shot four-under 140 to finish a stroke ahead of Eastern Connecticut State University's Ashton Lewis.
As a team, the Violets shot eight-over-par in each round (+16) and placed behind only Trinity College (+13) by three strokes.
NYU's
Jorge Montero, who shot 69 and was a tri-leader at the end of the first round, carded an 80 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 19th place along with teammate
Kevin Kim (75-74).
"Jomyuth was incredible today. What a performance from a first-year player!," said Head Coach Brad Johnson "He made sure that we were in the hunt the entire day. Can't wait to see what he and the rest of the guys can do as the season progresses."
Also playing for the Violets over the weekend were
Rohan Aerrabolu (tied 57th, 157) and
Ryan Leung (tied 67th, 158).
Overall, 22 teams and 109 golfers competed.
The Violets return to the course on Saturday and Sunday, October 7-8, for the Skidmore Invitational in Saratoga Springs, NY.
