Men’s Golf Climbs Leaderboard on Final Day of Duke Nelson Inv.

Violets Finish In Top Ten

The New York University men's golf team closed out its first stroke play tournament of the season on Sunday, Sep. 14.

The Violets climbed five spots from their collective opening rounds of the Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College at Ralph Myhre Golf Course in Vermont, and finished tied for seventh place. NYU recorded a collective +39 for the tournament.

Amherst College won the tournament with a two-round +16 final score as a team.

Bryan Zhao finished as the lone Violet in the top ten individually, turning in an even par 72 for the round and finishing +5 for the tournament. Zhao scored three birdies in his final 18 holes.

After opening with the blemish of a triple bogey on his second hole of the round, Oscar Uribe redeemed himself with a pair of birdies on his final nine holes for a +4 75. Uribe climbed three places to 29th overall with a +10 tournament score.

NYU's Qi Liu climbed 35 places on the leader board on Sunday after shaving nine strokes off his Saturday round. He turned in a +2 73 and finished at +11 for the tournament, placing 32nd overall. Liu was one of two Violets to score an eagle on Sunday, securing his on the par-five 16th hole.

Jomyuth Luangtana-anan rounded out the scoring field for the Violets with +7 78 on Sunday, finishing the tournament at +13 in 46th place overall.

The Violets continue their fall slate of competition at the RPI Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Shaker Ridge Country Club in Albany, NY, starting Oct. 5.
