The New York University men's golf team was edged by the University of Rochester 3-2 in match play on the final day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship.
The two-day event was held at the Harbor Hills Country Club in Lady Lake, FL, on Saturday & Sunday, March 11-12.
The Violets entered the Championship as the #4 seed in the four-team tournament, while Rochester came in at #3.
After falling to #1 seed Emory on Saturday, the Violets fell short to the Yellowjackets on Sunday.
NYU's #1 and #2 players,
Charles Hsieh and
Ethan Yang, respectively, won their matches. Hsieh, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, defeated Rocheter's Jack Feliciano 3&2, while Yang was victorious over Tom Liu 1-up.
However, those were the Violets' only victories in the match.
"I thought we played pretty well considering we hadn't been able to practice outdoors on grass since the semester began," explained Head Coach
Katie Rudolph. "Now that we were able to have some competition, I expect we will get stronger as the season progresses."
Carnegie Mellon, seeded #2 in the tournament, upended #1 seed Emory University 3-2 to capture the UAA crown.
The Violets are back on the course for the Jekyll Island Invitational Friday-Sunday, March 17-19.
