New York University's men's golf team completed the third and final round of the Golfweek October Classic, which was held at the Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, FL, Sunday-Tuesday, October 15-17.
The Violets finished 22nd out of 25 teams, improving by 11 strokes in round three over yesterday's performance. NYU shot 290 as a team today, bringing the squad's total score to 897 which was six strokes ahead of 23rd-place Piedmont.
Kevin Kim shined today for the Violets, tying the third-lowest single-round score in program history with a 68. He had five birdies on the day, including the first two holes on the back nine, and tied for 19th individually with a three-round score of 216.
Ethan Yang was second for NYU and tied for 60th overall, shooting a four-over par 75 in round three which brought him to 223 total strokes.
Mark Zhang had a strong third round, shooting a one-over par 72 as he tied for 81st individually (227). Zhang was then awarded Rookie of the Week honors from the Liberty League for his efforts.
Jomyuth Luangtana-anan (T-101st, 231) and
Jorge Montero (T-115th, 236) also competed for the Violets.
There were 25 teams and 125 golfers in action at the tournament. Methodist University claimed first place with a team score of 843.
NYU is right back in action on Wednesday, October 18, for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, FL.
