New York University's men's golf team shot a 288 (+8) across the first round of the George Cangero Invitational, hosted by Farmingdale State College, in Farmingdale, NY, on Saturday afternoon, good for third place after 18 holes.
Franklin & Marshall College leads the 10-team tournament, being played at the par-70, 7,092-yard Bethpage State Park Red Course, with an even 280.
One stroke behind in second is St. Thomas Aquinas College while NYU leads fourth-place Farmingdale by six.
Kevin Kim had an excellent showing as he's tied for fourth after carding a one-under-par 69 via a birdie on the 18th hole.
Charles Hsieh is the other Violet among the top 10, posting a two-over 72 which is tied for ninth.
A pair of rookies rounded out NYU's scorers as
Arjun Malik (73, t-12th) and
Ethan Yang (74, t-20th) are among the top 20 individuals.
Jorge Montero finished the round just one stroke behind Yang, shooting a 75 that has him tied for 27th out of 60 golfers.
Round two of the Invitational tees off tomorrow at 1:00 pm on Long Island.
