The New York University track & field teams completed the second and final day of the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships on Saturday, March 7. The meet was hosted in Rochester, NY, by Nazareth College.
The Violets had three top-five finishes on Saturday. Freshman
Isre'al Conerly (Los Angeles, CA/St. Mary's Academy) finished fifth in both the 200m and 400m, posting times of 25.78 and 58.75, respectively. In the 800m, freshman
Jon Diaz (Brookline, MA/Brookline) was fifth in 1:56.32.
There were numerous other top-10 results for NYU runners. Senior
Evelyn Nkanga (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial), after a fifth-place finish in the triple jump on Friday, placed sixth in the 200m (25.92) on Saturday. In the 3,000m, sophomore
Athina Zodl (Raleigh, NC/Cary Academy) finished seventh (10:28.55), while senior
Rebecca MacLeod (Northport, NY/Northport) was 10th in the 800m (2:21.48). In the 60m, freshman
Kamden Martin (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) placed seventh in 7.16.
The women's team finished in 15th place overall with 17 points, while the men finished 21st with nine points. Ithaca College placed first for women and Rowan University was the top men's team.
Depending on other results this weekend, Nkanga may continue on to the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships next weekend in Winston-Salem, NC. The indoor season has concluded for everyone else, and the outdoor track & field campaign will begin at the Black & Gold Invitational, hosted by the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL, beginning Friday, March 20.
