The New York University men's track & field team competed at the Valentine Invitational on Saturday, February 15, hosted by Boston University in Boston, MA.
A number of Violets set personal-bests at the meet, which included schools from Divisions I, II, and III.
Starting things off in the 3,000m, junior
Dillan Spector (Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) ran a personal-best 8:44.81, good for 47th place. Later, in the 800m, freshman
Jon Diaz (Brookline, MA/Brookline) finished 98th in 1:55.38.
In the sprints, freshman
Kamden Martin (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) placed 108th in 22.77. In the 400m, senior
Julian Montilus (Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) led a quartet of Violets with a 112th-place finish (50.46). Montilus also was a part of the NYU 4x400m relay — along with freshman
Daniel Akande (Franklin Township, NJ/Franklin Township), freshman
David Obwaya (Blaine, MN/Blaine), and sophomore
Brett Asay (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) — which placed 27th in 3:22.65.
Meanwhile, in field events, sophomore
Landon Edwards (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) placed 23rd with a mark of 1.85m in the high jump, while sophomore
Owen Mountford (Mountain View, CA/Mountain View ) placed 33rd in the shot put (13.16m).
"The team showed some good progress today," Head Coach
Erison Hurtault said. "But just like on the women's side, we have to make the most of the next two weeks to be prepared as we head into the UAA championships."
The Violets return to action next Friday, February 21, at the Last Chance Meet hosted at the Armory in Manhattan.
