Freshman Siena Moran (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) crossed the finish line in second place and the New York University women's cross country team placed second overall in the Ron Stonitsch Invitational at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Saturday, September 7.
Moran's time of 19:07.4 over the 5k course paced the field of 49 runners. Classmates Leah Haley (Windsor, CA/Montgomery) (fourth place, 19:41.3) and Milly Ames (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) (eighth place, 20:00.5) also had top-10 performances. Fellow freshman Julia Mao (Windsor, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro ) (13th place, 20:29.3) and sophomore Gabrielle Stankosh (Somerset, NJ/Bishop George) (17th place 20:41.) closed out the scoring for the Violets.
"Another very good race from a young team," said Head Coach
Erison Hurtault. "They competed well, which is what is most important."
The Violets finished with a total team score of 44 points, good for second place out of five teams. Host Vassar (33 points) and New Paltz State (60 points) finished first and third, respectively.
"The runners have started the season with some great momentum," Hurtault added.
NYU returns to action Saturday, September 21, at Bard College in Anna-Dale on Hudson, NY.
